Get to know about Ultra-Low-Floor Buses
The Madurai Division on Friday inducted 20 ultra-low-floor buses into service to make public transport more inclusive for disabled people.
These buses, designed with wheelchair accessibility and other special features, were flagged off by Commercial Taxes Minister P. Moorthy. The total cost of the new fleet is ₹18.5 crore.
TNSTC Madurai Commercial Manager P. Yuvaraj said, “These buses come equipped with a special kneeling feature, which lowers the bus to make it easier for wheelchair-bound passengers to board. Additionally, they have a speaker system to announce stops and destinations, ensuring that visually impaired passengers are also accommodated.”
There are designated spaces for wheelchairs inside the buses. This will ensure that passengers with disabilities can travel comfortably.
